Done is Better Than Perfect
Last newsletter we talked about how food is fuel and is not good or bad. Let’s talk about the expectations you have put on yourself regarding feeding yourself and/or your family. We are “supposed” to eat grass feed, free range meat. Wait, no, we aren’t supposed to eat meat at all. We must have organic fruits and veggies exclusively. Ugh, actually, we have to make sure the soil isn’t contaminated. Really all of our food should be sprinkled with rainbows and fairy dust…
You can see how it feels impossible and overwhelming to know what exactly we are supposed to do. Well, I’m here to tell you there is no right answer. And done is better than perfect.
You are no less of a mother, person or spouse because you pop a frozen lasagna in the oven instead of handmaking the noodles and simmering the sauce for 48 hours. You are no less of a human because you grabbed McDonalds on the way home.
Food is fuel - it is neither good or bad. You are neither good or bad because you chose a certain way to fuel your body. In this day and age of excessive information and a lifetime of misinformation (thanks lobbyists) it feels like we never make a right decision. Starting today - acknowledge that you are allowed to make whatever decision you want regarding food without guilt or shame. That your value is in no way related to your food choices. We spend so much energy trying to do the right thing when we could redirect that into something so much more valuable.
Make a sandwich for dinner. Let the kids eat cereal. Sit down and relax for once. I promise, you’ll be better for it.
I love you. Make sure you’re loving you too.
